Another sad day :(

We lost two more chicks last night.  Kiwi (the silkie) & Laurel (coronation sussex) were the victims.  I found Laurel dead with a bite mark and Kiwi had vanished.  I can't decide if my dogs were the culprits or if something came from the woods.

Bye bye Milton

Milton was bullying one of the other cockerels so I posted him on craigslist.  A nice family that has hens was after an easter egger roo, so it is a perfect fit.  Milton will have several ladies all to himself.

Chikens on June 1st

The chickens run around the yard in cliques based on who they were raised with in the original brooder. Here's how I define them.

The big chicks: These are the original chickens (more boys than girls in this group) They all have traditional women's names. There are 11 chicks in this group, but only 4 girls.

The Little Girls: Just a group of 3.  They kinda hang with the big chicks, but for the most part do their own thing.  This group includes Effie, Katniss & Primrose

The Greenies: This group of 5 all have botanical names. Willow, Ivy, Lily, Clover & Lotus

The Babies: This is a group of 7.  A couple of the original greenies are in this group because they were getting picked on.  This group includes Fern, Laurel, Skittles, Cupcake, Kiwi, Tater & Clementine.
